9 Best Videos, Articles and Quotes Honoring Maya Angelou

Dr. Maya Angelou. She taught us what it meant to be a phenomenal woman; how to rise. She epitomized grace and wisdom and made this world a better place. Since her passing we have learned even more about this incredible woman and we are even more moved. In all of the wisdom we felt like we had already learned from watching her and reading her works throughout the years, it is now that we feel even more inspired to contribute to the world.

Born Margeurite Ann Johnson, she was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She was raped at seven years old by her mother’s boyfriend. After that man was murdered, she became a mute for five years, because she felt like it was her voice that killed him. In her funeral that was televised today, President Bill Clinton spoke and said he believed that God took her now because after being mute for so long, God gave her His voice and now he wanted His voice back. If you’ve ever heard Dr. Angelou speak you know that her soothing voice filled with so much wisdom was indeed like hearing the voice of God. Imagining what the world would be like if she would have never spoken again is unfathomable. So in this time of reflection, we are feeling like it’s time for us to be better, do better and contribute more to the world. And hopefully this will spark a movement from other people to do the same. In that vein, here are some incredible videos, articles and poetry in honor of Dr. Angelou (including the full video from today’s homegoing service) to get you inspired:
