5 Items that Help You Look Good While Staying Warm
This has seemed like the coldest, snowiest winter ever and since the groundhog saw his shadow, we could have another six more weeks of this stuff. And when it’s this cold, it’s hard to look stylish when all you want to do is bundle up in as many layers as possible, even if it means looking like a polar bear. But I’ve found it’s possible to still have a sense of style even in these extreme weather conditions. Here are five items that can help you still look and feel good even in the cold:
1. Sleek Riding Boots
Riding boots provide classic comfort in the cold. As long as you aren’t walking in a lot of snow, these are your best bet, especially over a pair of skinny jeans or black pants. You can find these MICHAEL by Michael Kors ‘Arley’ Boot at Nordstrom for under $200.
2. A Cloche Hat
I love cloches — they are so classic and classy and a great nod to the 1920s and 30s. Over the past few years I’ve seen them appear more which I appreciate since they are a better looking option than a bulky knitted hat. Here are two that I really like: Kate Spade’s ‘To the Brim Studded Cloche’ and Anthropologie’s Velvet Twist Cloche. I also recommend Goorin Bros. which usually has a pretty good selection.
Knitted Infinity Scarf
What I appreciate most about the knitted infinity scarf is that it can transition from your “neck and chest warmer” for under your coat to being a warm accessory over a shirt or thin sweater. Get one in a bold color so that it can be your “pop of color” and a functional yet fashionable friend to your winter wardrobe. I like going to Etsy for these. This one in deep burgundy looks like a winner.
4. Puffer Coat with Flattering Silhouette
It would be great if we could wear a wool peacoat or trench all winter long, but winters like these absolutely call for something more substantial. Puffer coats get a bad wrap for good reason — they can be big, bulky and unflattering especially on women. The good thing is, puffer coats now come in some flattering silhouettes and with decent embellishments. This Andrew Marc Down Mixed Down Puffer Coat has a fur trimmed hood that’s even removable if it’s not your thing.
5. Sophisticated Gloves
Olivia Pope got us all craving for some long opera gloves this season. These Mark and Graham leather opera gloves not only are beautiful and come in some amazing, rich colors, but you can also personalize them with your initials. That way your bestie won’t try to “borrow” them or pass them off as her own!
