‘SNL’ Makes Steps to Cast Black Female in 2014

We’re seeing that Lorne Michaels meant what he said when he said “it will happen.” After much bad press, public pressure and even making fun of itself, it looks like ‘Saturday Night Live’ is making moves to add a Black female cast member in 2014. According to, SNL held auditions early this month which included comediennes Bresha Webb, Tiffany Haddish, Darmirra Brunson and Simonne Shepherd. Here’s a video clip from CNN with information about the casting call:

Turns out that the immense public pressure and one black male cast member refusing to dress in drag anymore was just the catalyst needed to spur Lorne Michaels and ‘SNL’ to add a Black female to the cast. In it’s 39 years of being on the air it has only had four women of color as cast members (last being Maya Rudolph who left in 2007).We’re glad to see mainstream media outlets finally taking steps to recognize the comedic talent and potential of black women. So tell us, which Black females would you like to see added to the ‘SNL’ cast?
