Starz Launching “Encore Black” Channel – Impressed?

encblk_pre_pos_color_rgb-Copy__131111153840-275x36Starz has made some changes to its Encore group of channels. It is rebranding “Encore Drama” to “Encore Black” which is supposed to focus on content related to the African American audience. According to Deadline, “The channel’s programming lineup will include Martin Lawrence’s 1st Amendment Stand Up and off-network series What’s Happening!!, Diff’rent Strokes, 227, andAmen. The December launch will spotlight actor Samuel L. Jackson with films such as Unbreakable, Losing Isaiah, Freedomland and One Eight Seven.”

What do you think? Are you happy that a movie channel is targeting content related to us or do you think they’re missing the boat with the kind of content?

I’m not into cable, but I’m not sure why it’s so hard just to include multi-ethnic shows in the main stream. Why must things be separated? Who is requesting this? We as black people or television execs?

I think it’s fine as long as there is a Encore White Channel. Oh wait, that would be racist.
