Diva on a Dollar’s Holiday Shopping Tips 2012
The holidays are my favorite times to shop. Though many people like jumping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I actually love shopping the week before Christmas until New Year’s Eve — that’s when you get the best deals! So even if you haven’t finished buying everything off of your shopping list, you still have time. Here are some of my shopping tips for this holiday season:
1. If there are any gifts you’re not sending in the mail, wait. As long as it’s not something that will run out before Christmas, wait until 12/23 or 12/24. Lots of last minute deals happen on Christmas Eve.
2. Join email lists. think about the stores at which the people you’re buying for shop. Join their email lists – many have been emailing special deal codes for percentages off, free or discounted shipping and special sales both for online and in stores.
3. Think ahead. You know how stores love to do holiday gift packs? Well as of 12/26 those items will be unsellable this season and will go on super sale. Stock up for next year (as long as it isn’t anything that will expire) or re-purpose by taking them out of the holiday packaging for future gifts. So, even if your mom’s birthday isn’t until June, think about her now.
4. Don’t forget yourself! Now is the time to not only give to others, but also give to yourself. Prices are great, so think about that new couch, appliance, jewelry or clothing items that you can save on now. The week between Christmas and New Year’s is the best time to take advantage of great deals (especially things like sweaters, scarves and gloves) as stores will try to make way for their spring items after the holidays are over. Many stores will slash prices by 30-75%.
