How to Build Your Boot Wardrobe

By Kailei R.

If you ever find yourself putting an outfit together and feeling like you don’t have the right boots to wear, it’s probably time to revisit your boot wardrobe. To help you out, we’ve listed some tips on not only what boots you should have, but also how wear them:

1. Over Pant Heel

What is it: The dressy-casual essential

How to wear it: These knee-high boots (only knee high, there’s no need to go over the knee) are best over jeans, leggings or straight legged pants. Make sure you have one black and one brown pair.

2. The Wedge

What is it: The comfy-funky boot. They give you the height usually with added comfort.

How to wear it: You can either get a pair of wedge booties to go with tights and a skirt or skinny pants or a knee-high pair that would be best with a skirt. One pair is enough (unless wedges are your thing).

3. The Bootie

What is it: The work to play boot (in my opinion, the star of the fall season)

How to wear it:  They’re great to rock with a skirt and tights, under boot cut jeans or even with skinny jeans. Having a pair with a skinny stiletto heel is a must; but a chunky heeled Mary Jane is a good addition as well. Though it’s fine to have a plain black or brown everyday bootie, I say have some fun and get a funky pair that makes you feel sassy.

4. Dressy Tall Boot

What is it: The sexy Saturday night boot. Skinny stiletto heel with a rounded pointy shoe is the best.

How to wear it: With a skirt or dress. Definitely in black — most sophisticated. But adding a chocolate brown or charcoal grey could be a nice addition to your wardrobe.

5. Riding

What is it: The Weekend boot. Firm leather, flat tall boot.

How to wear it: A great polished, casual look. My favorite riding boot look is with skinny jeans and a turtleneck — just classic!
