28 Days: A Diet Detox Diary (Days 11-15)

Day 11: Boy, I am so happy I didn’t have to travel! God was looking out.  It is too soon to start putting me in those difficult situations before I at least notice a substantial loss.  Speaking of change, I noticed when I woke up this morning my stomach was A LOT flatter.  It must be all that going to the bathroom and drinking water.  Speaking of water, I have never drank so much water in my life, at times I feel like I am going to float away.  I’ve been going to bed early, which means I’m also waking up early and actually making it to the gym before my work day starts.  Normally, I can do the elliptical or stairmaster for an hour but today I thought I was going to die on the machines! I’m being dramatic but note to self, if you don’t have any sugar in your system, try not to be superwoman on the exercise machines.  I managed to squeeze out 30 minutes and I met my personal trainer for a tough lifting session.  Overall, a good work out, now I am just focused on getting through the day.  I am a little frustrated that it is Friday and I can’t go out tonight unless I am going to sit at a bar drinking water all night while my friends are drinking mixed drinks and eating tasty food.  Nope, I am in for the night.  Today was a good day, I was not feeling hungry and I haven’t been craving the “bad” foods.  This has got to be one of the easiest cleanses I have done!

Day 12: Well, I got up this morning feeling great!  I hit the gym bright and early and ran errands most of the day.  I had to coordinate my schedule to be sure I made it home to make my shakes and to cook my “clean” lunch and everything worked out as planned! I even skipped one of my snacks, which is good.  They tell you, you can have two snacks but if you are not hungry, don’t eat your snacks.  So, I only had one snack.  I was supposed to hang out with friends tonight but I cancelled, again for the same reason for not going out on Friday.  I look at it like this, I only have to sacrifice 30 days of my life to hopefully lose 20 pounds and feel better about my new way of eating.  So, here was the test, one of my friends asked me over to watch the Olympics.  Remember I have not stayed up past 8 for the past week and I am going to be with other people, but I have to stay strong.  My friends are the best, they were all drinking water and we all went home by 9pm which meant I was in bed by 10pm.  Interestingly, I haven’t felt the need to snack late at night like I used to in the past.  I drank some water and went to bed. Yay me!

Day 13: Dare I?  I did, I got up today and weighed myself…I am down 5 pounds!  Whew, thank God.  If I weighed myself and I only lost a pound, I would say “forget it”, I can drink my wine and eat what I want to eat and just have the extra 15 pounds on me.  But not the case, this program is really working.  I feel great, I worked out for 90 minutes.  I am no longer feeling light headed when I workout.  I am not hungry on the program which means I am not going to cheat.  Now that I see the results, I am super motivated.  I just hope 7 days from now, I can say that I lost another 5 pounds.  Definitely going to bed early as tomorrow is a work day and I need to plan my meals in order to make it through the day.  Hopefully, I will not be traveling this week so I should have another successful week.  Key to success is planning!

Day 14: So, today was my first full day in the office and being on 2 shakes a day.  I prepared well for the morning but not so well for the afternoon.  I realized as I was looking at my calendar for the day, I had a lunch commitment!  At least I was in charge of picking the place, so I called one of my favorite restaurants to see if they had gluten free/dairy free meals.  They said they could make anything for me gluten and dairy free!  That was the easy part, the hard part was sitting down at lunch knowing that the bread basket was coming and I couldn’t touch it.  I was very good, I did not have any bread, sugar or coffee!  I made it through my first dining out experience since being on the shakes.  I did make the mistake of not packing the “green mix” to work as I am supposed to have it in the afternoons.  So, yesterday I skipped the green mix altogether and made it home just in time to make my shake before my 6:00 PM cut-off.  Overall, today was a success.

Day 15: Today was a good day.  Still no coffee, bread, processed sugar, or cocktails!  I can’t believe I have made it this long, it should show you the mind is a powerful thing.  Today was a busy day at work which meant I didn’t get to plan as much as I would have liked.  I was in back to back meetings so my lunch consisted of 3 boiled eggs and cut up red bell pepper.  Of course, I had my afternoon snack but that was it, not much food and I wasn’t hungry.  If you are going to do this cleanse, you need to be sure you can get to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s at least every three days.  Remember, you can’t shop in bulk because you are buying organic and these fresh fruits and veggies don’t have a long shelf life.  I am no longer going to bed at 8, I have a ton of energy and I am staying up until 10.  If you stay up late, be sure to have your bottle water handy!
