Who Knew? Surprising Cleaning Tricks

Do you know how plastic storage containers sometimes start smelling like what was in them even after they’re cleaned? Try washing with two tablespoons of baking soda and hot water.

Tarnish on copper or brass cookwear? Squeeze ketchup onto a cloth then rub on the items. Rinse with warm water and dry.

Use old newspapers to clean your mirrors and windows – you won’t see the streak and you’re recycling.

Have musty clothes? Spritz them with a small amount of vodka (spot-test first). Straight vodka kills bacteria, but it doesn’t leave a scent. Hang clothes to dry in a well-ventilated area. (RealSimple.com)

Have towels that smell funky no matter how often you clean them? Baking soda and vinegar will do the trick. Run the towels through the washing machine with hot water and a cup of vinegar. Wash again with hot water and a half-cup of baking soda, and your towels should be funk-free!

Do you have super duper soap scum? Mix Dawn with white vinegar. The best thing to do is put it in a spray bottle and spray the soap scum. You can let it sit for an hour or two and wash up with warm water.

Does your showerhead need cleaning? Mix 1/3 cup baking soda with 1 cup white vinegar. Put the mixture in a plastic bag and soak your showerhead in it. Use a large bag twisty tie to seal and let it sit several hours.
