After spending a year in that role she went on to join the production staff of The Oprah Winfrey show. She stayed on with the show for 18 years eventually becoming a Senior Supervising Producer. In this role she’s had the opportunity to produce some of the shows most high profile interviews and highly rated large scale productions including the “Wildest Dreams Come True,” “Welcome Home Olympic Athletes” and “Oprah’s After Oscar Party.” Additionally, she helped create three Primetime Specials – “Oprah’s Legends Ball” “Oprah’s Inaugural Celebration” “Oprah’s Primetime Oscar Special 2010″ and “Christmas at The White House.”
Favorite Oprah Show Moment (courtesy of Oprah.com): “About four years ago, I produced ‘The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’ As I prepared, I thought, ‘All we ever see is the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. There’s got to be more.’ With some digging, I discovered archival footage that had never been seen by a national audience. On the tape, Dr. King was interviewed in his home in Atlanta. He cracked jokes, told a story about his daughter wanting to go to an amusement park, and expressed how much he loved Coretta. After the show aired, viewers wrote things like ‘I never knew Dr. King was funny’ and ‘I had no idea he was so in love with Coretta.’ Teachers around the country began using the show in their classrooms. Coretta eventually told Oprah, ‘This is the first time anyone has ever personalized my husband.’ I can’t think of a single show that has ever made me feel so proud.”
Social Media Savvy: Andrea enjoys social media and is a big fan of blogs. In 2010 and July of 2011 she was a keynote speaker for “evo – The Evolution of Women in Social Media,” a conference that blends workshops, speakers and networking for social media enthusiasts.
Family Life: Andrea lives with her husband, three children and a cocker spaniel named Webster in the Kenwood/Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.
