Phenomenal Women

Published on June 25th, 2011 | by thevyne

Vyne Reader Spotlight: Petronella Lugemwa

Hometown: Birmingham, AL / Uganda

Current City: Jersey City, NJ

Roles you play in life: Daughter, sister, friend, and entrepreneur

Education: Undergrad chemical engineering degree from the Univ. of Virginia. MBA from Northwestern Kellogg School of Management.

Occupation: Marketer & wedding photographer

3 words that describe you: 3P’s: Passionate. Playful. Phenomenal.

What is your favorite TV show: The Simpsons. After all these years, they still make me laugh.

Shuffle your iPod – what’s the first song that comes up?: Don Omar’s “Danza Kuduro,” and yes when it came on, I started dancing salsa & merengue in my seat.

What is your favorite travel destination?: Cambodia because of the people. As a result of their bloody history with the Khmer rouge, the people there are so grateful for their lives.

What beauty product can’t you live without?: CoverGirl Lash blast. I believe the eyes are the gateway to the soul, so why not enhance them with some mascara?!?

Finish this sentence, “To feel more centered I…”: spend time with God. With Him, I’m always guaranteed peace in my heart.

Who is your celebrity fashion inspiration?: It’s a mix of Gabrielle Union and Cameron Diaz. My sister calls it preppy, trendy chic.

What is your favorite restaurant:  All I remember is that it was a tiny shack on a corner street in Hanoi, Vietnam.  Just thinking about it makes my taste buds salivate.

What words do you live by?: I truly believe G.W. Hegel’s quote, “nothing great in this world has ever been created without passion.”  Life is meant to be lived doing what you love and inspiring others to do the same.

What is your biggest accomplishment?:  Every time I’ve taken a leap of faith and trusted God during the most trying times, the journey has felt like a big accomplishment.  For example, starting my photography business by Petronella Photography, after a challenging personal and professional transition in my life.  I’m amazed at how far I’ve come and what lies ahead.
