March Meltdown: Week 2

Keesha, The Pre-Pubescent Boy

Okay, I’ll save you the suspense…this week I morphed into a pre-pubescent boy, battled cupcakes and lost 1 lb. Let me explain. I decided I wanted to add variety to my work out regime. I had been eyeballing the new Xbox Kinect for several weeks and decided to purchase. It’s like the Wii only BETTER! It didn’t take long before I was addicted to this thing like some pre-pubescent little boy. Which is great considering that all the games I purchased were dance or sports games (e.g. Dance Central, Zumba and Ultimate Fighter) that required me to exert a gang of energy to score points. Problem was…I didn’t stretch before or after. So after kicking, punching and dancing like my life depended on it I was in traction the next day! But it was a lot of fun so I totally recommend purchasing if you want to spice up your workouts. The other thing that happened this week was a full on “stare down” with a cupcake. I was in a cafe purchasing an afternoon tea when out of no where this cupcake started to stare me down! (ok maybe it was me who was staring down the cupcake…whatever…details) I was thinking, “last week cheesy poofs, now this!” You’ll be happy to know that yet again I prevailed. Cupcake 0 Keesha 1…also Xbox 1 Keesha 0…Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Oh well, on to Week 3!

Kailei and the Goat

In week 1 I lost three pounds and was feeling good! Well, earlier this week the scale started going back up which was a reality check that regardless of whether I was staying within my allotted Weight Watchers points, what I eat is important. Eating pasta and Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches were not the same as eating veggies, fruits, and lean meats. By the end of the week I started working out but had dinners out on Thursday and Friday. And these weren’t any random dinners. They were at two hot restaurants in Chicago: The Purple Pig and Girl and the Goat.  The Purple Pig has the tagline of “cheese, wine and swine” and let me tell you, I partook of it all! And at Girl and the Goat, I had pork, seafood, bread and butter, a great glass of wine, and even dessert. The crazy thing is, by this morning I was down a pound from the beginning of the week! I guess the key is, when you know you’re going to have a big meal, eat conservatively for the rest of the day. Even though I wish I had lost more than a pound this week, I’m averaging 2 lbs a week. I’m okay with that.
