Bridesmaid Dresses that Make Everybody Happy
Whether you are a bride-to-be with a ring or a bride-to-be who just hasn’t found the groom yet, I wanted to give you some advice: think about your bridesmaids when you pick out a dress. Throughout the years, I’ve been asked to be in about seven weddings. And luckily, my girlfriends have been very thoughtful and, for the most part, selected dresses that were flattering and not incredibly expensive (thank you Benee and Karissa in particular for selecting dresses that I have been able to wear a few times!). But I have met many women who have been left with multiple dresses that they paid a lot for that they would never wear again. Which made me think, there has to be a way to have a fabulous looking wedding that can not only keep your day looking perfect but also keep your bridemaids happy with the selection. Here are some suggestions to keep everyone happy:
1) Rent it!: We’ve talked about Rent the Runway in the past and we’ve also used it. They recently came out with a wedding collection of designer dresses including bridesmaid dresses that you can rent for the fraction of the purchase price. Now brides, though it may be inappropriate to ask your bridesmaids to buy a $350+ Badgley Mischka dress for your special day, renting it for $100 doesn’t sound so bad. Genius, right?
2) Little Black Dresses: Elegant and chic, LBDs should be in every woman’s closet. With this option, you could either ask your friends to wear one they already have, or you can select one for them to wear. Even if you select one for them, chances are they’d be able to wear it again. Here are some good options:
3) Keep it simple: Simple cocktail dresses are a great option for re-wearable dresses. These options from Nordstrom, Ann Taylor and J Crew are affordable, accessible and nice enough to wear again to a cocktail party or event.
4)Same color, different dress: Let’s face it, how many dresses look good on everyone’s body? And how many of us have friends who are all built in the exact same way? So, instead of forcing some of your friends to look better than others in one dress, why not pick a color and fabric and have them select dresses in a silhouette most suitable for their body type. By working together, you’ll be happy, your bridesmaids will be happy, and your photos will look great since everyone will be wearing something that is flattering to their figure.
