Making a List and Checking it Twice
Not quite sure when it was that the “make a list of all the things you want in a man and be specific” phenomenon started but it caught on like wildfire. Just check your nearest self-help section in the book store and you’ll find countless books and magazine dedicated to this topic. While all types of women have probably made lists of what they want in a man, for some reason, successful, single black women have taken the hardest wrap for list-making behavior. Primarily because the perception is that the lists made by successful, single black women are long, unreasonable, unrealistic and at time, contradictory.
Recently this video was released on youtube mocking the list-making habits of successful, single black women.
While the video certainly got a chuckle or two out of those who watched and commented, it also made me wonder a few things. It made me wonder, how exactly do women actually use these lists? Are the lists used and spoken about overtly to potential suitors or are they more of covert spiritual pact that you keep to yourself? More importantly, has anyone who used a list, successfully found someone who was the personification of everything on said list?
So tell us Vyne readers, does “list-making” what you want in a man really work?
