The Vyne Music Review: Eclectic Sounds

Bob Marley said it best, “one good thing about music…when it hits you, you feel no pain.” We happen to love music, all types in fact. Every now and then we like to scour for obscure songs or artists of different genres not often played in heavy rotation on the radio. So if you’re in the mood for some new tunes, take a listen to this playlist and let us know who else is playing in your iPod.

New Artist

Cilla K – We heard a few of Cilla K’s tracks through MySpace. Her sound is soulful yet  alternative, Hip Hop yet R&B, indie yet jazzy. She is a French West Indian vocalist who hails from Guadeloupe. Cilla K is also a former model who attended Sarah Lawrence College studying history before she got her big break with music producer David Pattillo. Her debut album “Fine Line” was recently released. Listen to a few of her tracks here.

Soul Stirring

Dwele – There’s just something so smooth about Dwele’s voice that we just can’t resist. We’ve been waiting for him to drop a new release and finally he has, it’s called “What’s Not To Love” from his soon to be released album W.W.W. (Wants, World, Women). If you’ve never heard of Dwele before, check out his first album Subject to get acquainted.

Corrinne Bailey Rae – The Grammy award wining crooner is back with yet another soulful suite of tunes. Check out her performance of her new single Closer on the Ellen Degeneres show.

2009 Flashback

Vanessa Williams – She’s still got the pipes and her 2009 album didn’t get much play but we really enjoyed the title track The Real Thing. The beat on the street is that she is dropping her next album end of summer/early fall 2010.

Blue Eyed Soul, Pop or Something Like It…

Train – You’ve probably heard the chorus of this song in a commercial or two but never knew the name of it. It’s called Hey Soul Sister and the whole song is actually quite fun to listen to. Listen for the part when he says she’s so gangsta and he’s so thug…hilarious!

LaRoux – Okay, so this could totally be one of those songs we all listened to back when MTV was all we had for music videos. You know the U2, Madonna, Bon Jovi days. This song, titled Bulletproof, feels like those great 80’s days. It’s quite catchy too.
